Grace Christian tennis wins girls’ and boys’ State Doubles

The Grace Christian Cougars tennis program has once again proven its dominance on the tennis court, with a stellar performance at the GIAA Individual Tennis Championship at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center in Macon, Georgia.

Leading the charge were the unstoppable girls’ doubles duo of Kate Poitevint and Sybil Lee, who secured their third consecutive state championship title. They dictated play from the baseline and at the net, executing crisp volleys and well-timed lobs that kept their opponents on the defensive. The duo maintained control throughout their matches, using sharp cross-court angles to open space and well-placed drop shots to force errors. Their chemistry and precision cemented their legacy as one of the most formidable pairs in Grace Christian history. 

On the boys’ side, the No. 1 seed doubles team of Josh Adams and Preston Barnett relied on aggressive net play and consistent service games to clinch the state doubles championship. Adams’ serve put their opponents on their heels, while Barnett’s quick reactions at the net cut off passing lanes, creating opportunities for decisive points. Their victory was a testament to their hard work and the guidance of Coach Jeremy Ryan, whose leadership has been instrumental in shaping the Cougars into a powerhouse program.

Meanwhile, senior Owen Earnest, the No. 1 seed in Class A boys’ singles, made an impressive run to the individual championship match, battling fiercely before falling to LaGrange’s Prem Kamat in a competitive match. Though he fell just short of the title, his journey was marked by grit and determination, earning him respect and admiration from teammates and competitors alike.

In the girls’ singles bracket, Grier Albritton, the No. 4 seed, made a deep run into the Class A semifinals, showcasing her talent and perseverance. Her performance reflected the depth and strength of the Cougars’ tennis program.

With multiple championships and deep tournament runs, Grace Christian’s tennis program continues to shine, proving that hard work, dedication, and teamwork are the keys to success. As the Cougars celebrate their victories, they also look ahead to the future, ready to build on their legacy of excellence.

The GIAA State team tennis tournament kicks off April 29-30 in Macon, Georgia, at the John Drew Tennis Center and Randy Stephens Tennis Center. The Cougars’ girls’ and boys’ teams hold the top seed in the competition. The girls squared off against No. 8 seed John Hancock and advanced, while the boys will enjoy a bye to the quarterfinals, where they will compete against the winner of LaGrange vs. Thomas Jefferson.
