The Bainbridge Bearcats’ girls’ soccer team’s outstanding 2024-25 campaign concluded in the GHSA 3A State Girls Soccer Championships’ second round, where they fell 9-1 to Gilmer. But their season was far more than its final score. It was a campaign of excellence, marked by history—a fourth consecutive Region One championship and an astounding 35-1 region record that proves their dominance over a four-year term. Their legacy as champions remains.
The Bainbridge Bearcats girls’ soccer team has built something truly special, and much of that legacy is owed to the senior class that just capped off their remarkable run.
Head coach Brian Hill reflected on the impact of this group, which helped shape the program. “This group helped bring the first Region championship to Bainbridge and then went on to win three more in a row,” Hill said. “Their commitment to excellence set the standard for what Bainbridge soccer could be.”
That standard reached new heights this season, as the seniors secured another Region 1 title and did so in dominant fashion—going undefeated in region play, which propelled them to the Sweet 16, further cementing their influence in the program’s history.
“They built something that will be remembered for years,” Hill said. “This is a special group—not just because of their success, but because of the way they carried themselves. They led by example and showed younger players what it takes to compete at a high level.”
Hill has been coaching many of these seniors since middle school, watching their growth both on and off the field. “We’ve coached them since sixth grade, and it’s been fun to be a part of their journey,” he said. “Seeing them develop, seeing them lead—it’s been special.”
Their names may fade from the roster, but their legacy will live on with every future Bearcat who steps onto the pitch at Centennial Field.
This week, the AAA Region One First Team All-Region selections were revealed, and they were littered with Bearcats’. Featuring midfielder Drew Thompson, defender Abigail Holey, midfielder Lydia Bentley, and defender Maria Torilla-Mendoza.
Defender Tayden Burris and midfielder Alicia Sarmiento were recognized as part of the Second Team AAA Region One All-Region team, while freshman Saniya Brown earned the title of AAA Region One Goalkeeper of the Year.
Senior defender Emma Ryan Shirley and senior forward Addison Hill continued to etch their names in Bainbridge soccer history, earning AAA Region 1’s top honors once again. Shirley secured Defensive Player of the Year, while Hill was named Player of the Year—marking their second consecutive season receiving these accolades.
