Man found dead Sunday morning

A 20-year-old man from Whigham, Ga., was found dead inside his pickup truck on the morning of Sunday, March 25, according to an incident report.
Captain Justin Bedwell of the Sheriff’s Office responded to 898 Maxwell Road in Decatur County at 8:23 a.m. Sunday. Capt. Bedwell stated in his report that he found Joel David Maxwell, 20, of 964 Maxwell Road, Whigham, sitting in the truck, which was in a ditch and had been destroyed by fire.
Other Sheriff’s deputies, including Crime Scene Investigator Gale Bowyer, and Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Jaa Tucker also responded to the scene, as did Climax volunteer firefighters and Decatur County EMS.
“It was determined through preliminary investigation that the fire was the result of a vehicle crash,” the Sheriff’s Office report stated.
Sgt. First Class Marc Godby, commander of the Georgia State Patrol post in Colquitt, Ga., said Tuesday that both his agency and the Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the accident.
