Track teams do well in Tifton meet

The Bainbridge High School boys and girls’ track teams finished a strong second and third Saturday at the Tift County High School Blue Devil Invitational Tournament in Tifton.
Joseph Ausgood set a new meet record in the 800-meter run with with a time of 1 minute, 59 seconds. His Bearcat teammate, Steven Crowell, set a new meet record in the shot put with a heave of 49 feet, 4 inches.
Ausgood was also first in the 400-meter run with a time of 51.36 seconds and was a member of the first place 4-by-400-meter relay team. The relay team, also featuring Octavious Scott, Ryan Edwards and Alton Miller, turned in a time of 3:25.95.
Scott also had a first place 110-meter hurdles time of 15.44.
Other top performers included Delonte Martistee, who was first in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches, second in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 10 inches and third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 7 inches; Jamar Venisee-Cosby, who was second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches; and Dewayne Gurley, who was third in the discus with a throw of 148 feet, 3 inches and sixth in the shot put with a heave of 41 feet, 11 inches.
The Bearcats 4-by-800-meter relay team of Jevonta Ross, Dylan Thomas, Romerio Fields and Antonio Anderson was fourth in the 4-by-800-meter relay in a time of 9:20.08.
Ramerio Fields finished eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.11 seconds and Jordan Johnson finished eight in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 9 inches.
Also capturing third place was the Bearcats 4-by-100-meter relay team of Aaron Hall, Ryan Edwards, Brandon Handsford and Terry Lewis. Their time was 43.61.
Dontavious Jackson was third in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.87.
Top performers for the Lady Cats included Kadeejah Cooper, who was second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.22; Diamond Bouie, who was second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches; Khadeedra Sparrow, who was second in the shot put with a heave of 32 feet, 4 inches and Tierrany Harvin, who was second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet 1/2 inch.
Third place finishers were Bouie with a 400-meter run time of 1 minute, 2.68 seconds and the 4-by-400-meter relay team of Cooper, Ashley Mango, Raven Burney and Bouie with a time of 4 minutes, 23.22 seconds.
Finishing fourth was Porchia Green with a 4 foot, 8 inch high jump. The Lady Cats’ 4-by-100-meter relay team of Cooper, Belin, Bouie and Tiara Adams was fifth in a time of 52.22 seconds.
