Recent Obama rant
Published 11:06 am Wednesday, April 6, 2011
The recent letter (“And now, Hypocrite-in-Chief”) contains the normal (and mostly boring) rants against our President. The majority of the letter is simply opinion and excerpts from numerous Internet comments.
I only want to address two of his “points.” President Obama did not give Brazil a “gift” of $3 billion. It was the Import-Export Agency that loaned Brazil the money. The agency is self-funded and requires the country to use the funds to buy U.S. products and services. In Brazil’s case the money will be used to buy drilling equipment from American companies. And since Brazil’s credit rating is among the best in the hemisphere, the loan will be paid back with interest. Oh, all the members of the board that approved the loan were Bush-appointees.
And now the silliness about the fare served at the White House Super Bowl party. Every healthy-eating guru’s recommendations that I’ve seen says that it’s OK to reward yourselves on special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and, of course, Super Bowl Sundays.
I have no problem with people who disagree with our president. Just be fair and check your facts.
