On the east side of Highway 27 just south of Havana, Fla., is a great idea that thanks to Suzanne Brandt may become reality to Bainbridge—a community garden.

Brandt, the director of Keep Decatur County Beautiful, has wanted to develop a community garden for some time now, and she’s taking the gracious step of offering some of her own family’s land for it.

The initial project will be on a 46-by-90-foot plot off Old Pelham Road, or just seven miles north of Stone’s Home Center.

Beginning at 3 p.m. today, green thumbs and not-so-green thumbs may gather to plant the first seeds in a very worthy project.

The soil has been tested. The ground has been fertilized, and it’s now only awaiting those who want to garden a small plot of ground.

But think of the benefits—fresh vegetables on the tables of many who may lack the ability to plant a garden of their own or don’t often buy fresh vegetables because of their rising cost.

It’s a great project—one we hope will garner support and one we hope will plant a seed for more community gardens in Decatur County.
