A Pelham, Ga., man died and a Bainbridge woman was seriously injured after a motorcycle accident in Leon County, Fla., this past Sunday, July 8.
According to the Leon County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at approximately 7 p.m. on County Road 12, which runs east to west on the northern side of Lake Iamonia, or about 20 miles south of Cairo, Ga.
Fifty-year-old Joseph A. Curles Jr. of Pelham, Ga., was driving a 1998 Honda Valkyrie motorcycle west on County Road 12 with Dana C. Roberts, 41, of Bainbridge, as his passenger. While traveling through a curve, the motorcycle drifted into the road’s east-bound lane, left the roadway and struck a guardrail, throwing both Curles and Roberts off the motorcycle.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet, according to a news release provided by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. Both Curles and Roberts were transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment. Curles later died as a result of his injuries.
Roberts was still listed in critical condition at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesperson.
