Bainbridge Public Safety arrested three local young men and charged them with aggravated assault, following two reported shooting incidents on Sunday night, according to BPS incident reports.

Arrested and charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespass were: Victor Voneric McKay, 21, of 3050 Vada Road, Bainbridge; Kalvin Antoine Coley, 18, of 906 Anderson St., Bainbridge; and Tevin T. McKay, 19, of 131 Floyd Drive, Bainbridge.

Victor McKay was also charged with obstruction of an officer and a probation violation, on the original charge of theft by shoplifting.

Victor McKay called 911 around 9 p.m. on Sunday, reporting that someone in a black Ford Mustang had shot at him at around 7 p.m., although he gave conflicting information as to where he had been at the time, said BPS Investigator Anthony Stubbs.

BPS officers had responded to the area of Green and Washington streets in reference to shots fired at 7:13 p.m. It is possible this was the incident McKay was referring to, Stubbs said. BPS officers did find two bullet holes and shells, believed to be .40 caliber, inside Victor McKay’s Ford Explorer.

At approximately 11:05 p.m., BPS Officer Terry Pait responded to 1123 E. Troup St., in reference to shots fired. The complainant stated she was standing outside her residence when she observed two men exit a black Dodge Charger with silver rims and walk toward her. The complainant stated one of the men was carrying a pistol and fired three times in her direction before getting back in the Charger and fleeing north on Collier Street.

No one was injured in the shooting. However, two bullets struck a white Ford Mustang (not involved in the earlier shooting) that was parked. Officer Pait found three spent 9-millimeter bullet casings lying on the ground.

BPS put out a “be-on-the-lookout” (BOLO) dispatch, concerning the black Dodge Charger described by witnesses at the shooting.

At 11:23 p.m., BPS Officer Gary Hines located the suspects’ vehicle in the neighborhood known as The Pear Orchard, located between Albany Road and the Flint River, according to Investigator Stubbs. Hines ordered the car’s three occupants — later identified as Coley, Victor McKay and Tevin McKay — out of the vehicle. Coley and Tevin McKay were taken into police custody without incident, but Victor McKay fled the scene on foot.

Officers later found a bag containing a firearm along a path, in the direction Victor McKay had fled in. He later returned to the scene and was taken into custody. Officers towed McKay’s Ford Explorer, which was parked at his residence on Bartow Street, and seized it as evidence.

Stubbs said Tuesday he believed the second shooting incident on Troup Street was done in retaliation for Victor McKay being shot at earlier that evening.

Two of the suspects had an athletic background, according to previous reports from The Post-Searchlight.

Coley was a wide receiver for the Bainbridge High School varsity football team, playing his senior season in 2010. He was also a member of the BHS track team.

Tevin McKay played BHS ninth-grade football in 2009 and threw the shot put in track and field between 2009-2011.
