Edward Patrick “Pat” Burke, 83, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at Memorial Hospital.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Grubbs officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Burke was born March 8, 1929 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Joseph Burke and Anna Palumbo Burke. He retired as a senior chief from the U.S. Navy, where he served on 11 submarines during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Mr. Burke led tours on the U.S.S. Yorktown in Charleston, S.C., for several years. He was also an instructor at Palmer College and Trident Technical College.

Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy and Joe; and his sister, Anna.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Burke of Bainbridge; his sons, Michael Burke and his wife, Rose, of Hiddenite, N.C., and Terry Burke of Charleston, S.C.; his daughter, Patty Putnal and her husband, Joe, of Bainbridge; his sisters, Helen Patricia and Margaret; and his eight grandchildren, J. W. Putnal and Nicole Putnal, both of Bainbridge, Josef Burke of Charleston, and Mikalynn Burke of Hiddenite, Michael, Leslie, Eva, and Anthony of California.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
