Turner F. Barber Jr., 83, of Bainbridge, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Randy Mosley officiating, and will conclude at the church. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mr. Barber was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Macon, Ga., the son of Turner Franklin Barber and Linda Mathis Penn Barber. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1945, and earned a bachelor of science degree in forestry from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Xi Sigma Phi.

Mr. Barber was the 7th Forester registered in the State of Georgia and worked his entire career with the Georgia Forestry Commission. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for more than 30 years and served on many church boards and held multiple offices. Mr. Barber was a member of the Society of American Foresters, a past-president of the Decatur County Historical Society, the Decatur-Seminole Library Board, and volunteered many years with the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marcia Jones Barber of Bainbridge; his sons, Mack Barber and his wife, Betsy, of Macon, and Frank Barber and his wife, Michele, of Gray, Ga.; his daughter, Susan Barber Riser and her husband, Jim, of Columbia, S.C.; his sister, Linda Barber of Charleston, S.C.; and his grandchildren, Lauren Riser, Jamie Riser, Bayne Barber, Lindsey Barber, Scarlet Barber, and Levi Barber.
