The trailer of a semi-truck got stuck and blocked Vada Road for approximately half an hour Monday morning, forcing Bainbridge Public Safety to detour traffic until the trailer was moved.

Arthur Spence, a driver with Dixieland Transport of Camilla, Ga., said he was trying to turn right onto Vada Road as he was leaving the Zip Trip convenience store, which is located at the intersection of East River Road (State Route 311) and Vada Road (State Route 97). At approximately 9:50 a.m. Monday, the bottom of Spence’s trailer began to scrape along the asphalt, and eventually became stuck.

Bainbridge Public Safety and the Decatur County public works department were called in to assist. Spence used a jack to elevate the trailer, eventually lifting it from the road and loosening the traction to where he was able to back the truck safely into the Zip Trip parking lot.

Spence said that he makes regular deliveries to the Zip Trip store, and had never previously gotten the trailer stuck there. However, he did note that he usually turns left and drives north on Vada Road, whereas Monday he turned right with the intention of heading to Bainbridge.

BPS blocked traffic at the intersections of Vada Road and Sims Street, Vada Road and Lamar Street, and Vada Road and East River Road, until the trailer was cleared from the roadway. The road was reopened to regular traffic at approximately 10:15 a.m.
