Buford “Pepsi” Meadows, 84, of the Vada Community, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, in Albany, Ga.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ed Harrell and the Rev. Conrad Salter will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Newsome, Tracy Posey, Joey Posey, Steve Brock, Brantley Harrell, Gary Harrell, James Knight, and Don Feranec. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Powell, Ennis Brock, Donald Brock, Men of Salem Baptist Church, and Men of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Born Oct. 4, 1928, in Decatur County, Mr. Meadows was the son of the late Monroe and Lizzie Brock Meadows. He was a member of Salem (Open Pond) Baptist Church. Mr. Meadows was a retired school bus driver, having worked for the Decatur County School System for 30 years. He also retired from farming. Mr. Meadows had a love for gospel music, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed many days fishing with his fishing pal and nephew, Bud Glover. Most of his friends referred to him as “Pep” short for Pepsi, a nickname given to him at an early age by Mr. Jamie Harrell.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Glover Meadows of the Vada community; one daughter, Vonnie Hatcher and husband, Jimmy, of Camilla, Ga.; one grandson, Brock Hatcher and wife, Nicole, of Albany; and two great-grandsons, Parker and Lawson Hatcher of Albany.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., one hour before services, Sunday, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Vada.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Buck Powell, 198 Oakridge Rd., Climax, GA 39834.
Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
