ROTC Cadets honored

The Bainbridge High School Air Force Junior ROTC Unit was honored with a Distinguished Unit With Merit Award for an eighth consecutive school year.
The achievement highlighted the unit’s 17th annual awards banquet, held last Tuesday at the BHS cafeteria.
Adam Anderson, who has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., received a number of top awards, including the American Legion Scholastic Award and the Daughters of the American Revolution Award.
Anderson and Stephen Dunn, who has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy prep school, were named outstanding fourth-year cadets.
Dunn also received the American Legion Military Excellence Award and the Reserve Officers’ Association Award.
Dexter Lagace and Ansley Watts were named outstanding first-year cadets, Caryn Vandergriff was named outstanding second-year cadet and Stacy Martin and Hunter Savage were named outstanding third-year cadets. Lagace also received the American Veterans Award.
The Oak Murdock Patriot’s Award went to Cadet Christopher Campbell. The award, established in memory of late Cadet Oak Murdock to honor his total commitment to Junior ROTC, ranks with the outstanding cadet awards.
Cadet Campbell, who also received the Military Officers Association of America Award, will be the new BHS Cadet Corps Commandeer at the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year. He has also been selected to attend American Legion Boys State.
Cadet Shemelia Bush has been selected to attend American Legion Girls State.
Most improved cadets were honored with Georgia Army National Guard Minuteman Awards.
The most improved freshman cadet was Akinsheye Kelly, the most improved sophomore cadets were Shakeria Kenon and Hunter Savage, the most improved junior cadet was David Daniels and the most improved senior cadet was Ansley Watts.
Riley Cutchin received the Veterans of Foreign Wars Award and the Retired Enlisted Association Award.
Hunter Savage received the Daedalian Award and the National Sojourners Award.
Rebecca Schoeneman received the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction Award and Tanisha Warren received the Military Order of the Purple Heart Award.
The Military Order of the World Wars Award was presented to James Harrell and the Military Officers Association of America Award was presented to Christopher Campbell.
William Darley received the Air Force Sergeants Association Achievement Award, Thomas Sudderth received the Air Force Sergeants Association Emerging Leader Award and Zenil Patel received the Sons of Union Veterans the Civil War Award.
The Embry Riddle Freedom Foundation Award was presented to John Tome and Tuskeegee Airman Awards were presented to Eliezer Gomez and Bitisha Shina.
Alexander Shelton received the Sons of the American Revolution Award and James Harrell received the Military Order of the World Wars Award.
