Monday morning, the Decatur County Board of Commissioners will officially designate the county’s new agriculture building as the “Thomas E. ‘Tommy’ Wheeler Agricultural Center.”
The official ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., at the new building, located on Ag Lane off Reynolds Street and adjacent to the Cloud Livestock Facility. The building houses a number of agencies important to local farmers, including the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, the Farm Service Agency and the National Resources Conversation Service.
Wheeler worked as the county’s extension agent for 18 years, and also served many years as a high-school agriculture teacher and director for the Decatur County 4-H program.
Monday is Wheeler’s birthday, and among those expected to be in attendance are members of his family, who were visiting for Thanksgiving.
