The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats won their second consecutive game Friday night, edging the Harris County High School Lady Tigers, 42-41, at home.
In their next game, the Lady Bearcats fell to the Northside-Columbus High School Lady Patriots, 57-42, Saturday night on the road.
Their victory over Harris County followed a Saturday, Jan. 5, victory over the Miller County High School Lady Pirates in Colquitt.
The Lady Cats, who are 3-8 for the season, had a rematch with Miller County on Tuesday at home, and will play the Lee County High School Lady Trojans in another Region 1-AAAAA game Friday in Leesburg.
Friday night, Bainbridge trailed Harris County, 41-36, with just over two minutes remaining in the game. They then proceeded to outscore the Lady Tigers 6-1 the rest of the way to pull out the victory.
Shooting guard Tameria Levens hit a jumper with 1:50 remaining to cut the lead to 41-38. A layup by point guard Alex Carter with 1:45 left got the Lady Cats to within 41-40. Carter hit two free throws with 35.3 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Cats on Friday night were Carter and center Patra Paris, with nine points apiece.
Keora Harris of the Lady Tigers took game scoring honors with 15 points.
In Saturday night’s loss to Northside-Columbus, the Lady Cats were led by Carter’s 12 points. Levens added nine.
Bainbridge coach Kelvin Cochran said he was proud of his team’s efforts in winning two of their last three games.
“Our young ladies have been hustling and playing hard throughout the season and now their efforts have started to pay off with a couple of victories,” he said. “I am very proud of them.”
