Local government officials are closely watching weather conditions as the heavy rain continues to fall on Bainbridge.

From the start of rainy conditions early last Friday, to Monday at 8:30 a.m., 6.2 inches of rainfall had been recorded at the Decatur County Public Works office on Airport Road, according to Public Works Director Dennis Medley. As much as ten inches of rain fell on parts of Seminole and Decatur County, according to citizen weather reports.

The county’s Public Works department responded to five reports of trees falling on roadways. Whispering Pines Drive, off Georgia 97 South, was closed over the weekend and remained closed on Monday morning.

Medley said Public Works would continue to monitor weather and road conditions throughout Monday.

“We have a good rapport with our county school bus drivers, so we should hear back from them about what shape the roads are in,” Medley said.

Bainbridge City Manager Chris Hobby said it was business as usual for city employees. However, Bainbridge Public Services workers are checking streets and sewer catch basins to make sure water doesn’t build up.

“So far, we haven’t had any flash flooding,” Hobby said. “There was a little lull on Sunday, so the water had some chance to run off.”
