The Bainbridge High School varsity baseball team fell 3-1 at Lincoln High School, on Tuesday.

The game was played in Tallahassee, Fla., where the Bearcats were led by Tate Lambert, who was the starting pitcher and had one of the Bearcats’ three hits.

The Bearcats’ only run came in the fourth inning. After Lambert’s single, a sacrifice bunt by Rion Murrah moved the pitcher to second. A single by Blake Voyles moved Lambert to third. Then Cole Granato hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Jackson Jones, who was acting as a courtesy runner for pitcher Lambert.

Bearcat Ben Day had a single and a stolen base.

Lincoln scored one run in its half of the second, third and fourth innings.

Lambert pitched five innings for the Bearcats, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. He struck out four Lincoln batters.

Matthew Burke came on in relief for Lambert in the bottom of the sixth.

“We’ve had an opportunity to win every game we’ve played,” Bainbridge varsity coach Brian McCorkle said. “We’ve pitched well enough to win them all.”

Referring to the Bearcats’ lack of scoring in the last three games, McCorkle said he told his team not to get frustrated.

“We’ve just got to keep doing what we’ve practiced and make the best of the times we get runners on base,” he said. “We’ve got to make mental adjustments at the plate and keep battling.”

With the loss against Lincoln, the Bearcats’ overall record fell to 5-8. As of Thursday, they were tied for fourth in Region 1-AAAAA with Lee County.

On Friday night, the Bearcats were scheduled to travel to Leesburg, Ga., for an important doubleheader with Lee County. Next Tuesday, the Bearcats will host Northview High School, of Dothan, Ala., at the BHS Diamonds, starting at 6 p.m.

Next Friday night, the Bearcats will travel to Hamilton, Ga., for a doubleheader with region foe Harris County.
