Part of U.S. Highways 27 and 84, where they intersect with Dothan Road, have been closed until further notice, after a Monday afternoon accident, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.

A semi-trailer truck was transporting an excavator on its flat cargo bed when the excavator struck the bypass bridge over Dothan Road, shortly after 5 p.m.

The excavator overturned onto its side, underneath the bridge, in the eastbound lanes of Dothan Road.

Vehicles traveling south on U.S. 27, proceeding from the Industrial Air Park toward Bainbridge, must take the Dothan Road exit to proceed. according to BPS Director Eric Miller.

The same goes for vehicles traveling east on U.S. 84/Dothan Road, from the direction of Brinson towards Bainbridge. Those vehicles must enter the bypass, across from the Kangaroo Travel Center, to proceed east.

Traffic headed west on Dothan Road, or north on the U.S. 27/84 bypass, can continue as normal, although drivers should be cautious of Georgia Department of Transportation workers and others who will be inspecting the bridge.
