Bainbridge youth are state tennis champs

A team from Bainbridge won the state championship in the USTA’s Junior Tennis competition.
The state tournament was held July 26-28 in Macon, Ga. 109 teams from around the state competed in various age groups. Bainbridge’s team was the champion in the 18-and-under Beginners’ Silver division.
The team went undefeated in six contests, defeating a team from Atlanta 5-0 in the championship. Overall, the team’s players had 24 wins and only six losses in match play. They won 51 out of the 76 sets they played.
The team was coached by Allison Barber. Team members included Andy Pitts, Dylan Brock, Jessie Oliver, Karlee Houston, Lauren Cassels, Maci Barber, Matthew Stuart and Slater Burke.
At the championship, Dylan Brock won a singles match and five doubles matches with partner Slater Burke. Burke went undefeated in summer doubles play, partnered primarily with Brock.
Karlee Houston won all six of her singles matches at the championship and also went undefeated in summer program play.
The doubles pairing of Lauren Cassels and Jessie Oliver won four of six matches they played in the championship. They also won six of seven matches they played together earlier in the summer.
In summer play, Andy Pitts won four singles matches and three doubles matches with partner Dylan Brock. Pitts added three singles wins in the championship round.
Maci Barber won seven of eight mixed doubles matches in the regular season, playing primarily with partner Matthew Stuart. Barber and Stuart won five of six matches in the championship.
