The Bainbridge High School varsity softball team won two of three games they played at an invitational tournament in Thomasville, Ga., over the weekend.

In game 1 of the tournament, played Friday, the Lady Cats defeated the Class AA Thomasville Lady Bulldogs 7-4.

The Lady Cats opened up scoring with a three-run second inning. Magan Vaughn walked and scored later in the inning on a single by Lindsey Griner. Griner was brought home on a single by Morgan Phillips. Shea Williams singled and scored when Laura Griner reached on an error.

Thomasville scored one run in the fourth.

The Lady Cats struck again in the sixth. Williams singled to lead off the inning. Laura Griner reached base on an error, moving Williams to second, then Maegan Harrison singled to bring home Williams.

Later in the inning, Anna Barber singled, scoring Laura Griner and Harrison.

Vaughn walked, scoring Barber.

The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the sixth, then two more in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Lady Cats.

Brooke Bates pitched the complete game win for BHS.

 

BHS vs. Early County

In the second game of the tournament, played against Early County on Saturday, the Lady Cats pummeled the Class AA Lady Bobcats, winning by a score of 17-4. The game was called after four innings due to the mercy rule.

Meagan Harrison had four runs scored, while Laura Griner and Brooke Bates also scored three runs each and Anna Barber scored twice.

Longeisha Emanuel had a triple in the Lady Cats’ eight-run fourth inning.

Caitlyn Dunlap pitched two innings for the Lady Cats and also scored a run. Harrison, who started the game in left field, came on in relief to pitch the final two innings.

 

BHS vs. Cook

The Lady Cats’ third and final game of the tournament was played Saturday afternoon against Class AA opponent, the Cook County Lady Hornets. The game was tied 2-2 for several innings until Cook broke it open with a six-run seventh inning.

The Lady Cats started off strong in the first inning, with Brooke Bates and Anna Barber reaching on singles. Bates advanced to third on a stolen base, followed by Barber stealing second. Then Caitlyn Dunlap hit a double to score Bates and Barber.

Cook got on the scoreboard in their half of the third inning. Two Lady Hornets reached on errors, then a wild pitch advanced the runners and a teammate followed up with a 2-RBI double.

Then the Lady Hornets played good defense, with no Lady Cat reaching base again until the fifth inning. The Lady Cats loaded the bases but were unable to capitalize.

Bates pitched the complete game but took the loss.
