Jim Wimberly, 69, of Lexington, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at his daughter’s residence.
There will be services at a later date in Lexington.
Mr. Wimberly was born Jan. 15, 1944 in Winston Salem, N.C., the son of Mack McLain and Mildred Starnes McLain. He was a jack-of-all-trades but spent the majority of his career as a welder and a truck driver.
Mr. Wimberly was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed spending time in nature, watching birds, wildlife and time gardening.
Mr. Wimberly will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Lisa Phelps of Lexington; his children, Rose White of Brinson, Ga., Loria Wimberly and her fiancé, David Carter, of Bainbridge, Chrissy Smith and her husband, Jonathan, of Goldsboro, N.C., Jessie Huffman, and her husband, Chad, of Lexington,  Amanda Wimberly of Lexington, and Amy Wimberly of Lexington; his siblings, Edward Burleson, Wade Burleson, Sr. and his wife, Ruth, Joe Burleson, Barry Burleson and his wife, Cindy, Lynn Bowman and her fiancé, Eddie, and Tammy Gray and her husband, Jerry, all of Lexington; his 15 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gay Wimberly Spooner.
Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
