The Bainbridge seventh grade Bearcats, now 0-1, and Lady Cats, 1-1, both had two games on the road this week.
Wednesday, the Bearcats and Lady Cats travelled to Washington Middle School in Cairo to face off against the Tigers.
The Lady Cats played first, putting to use their summer of training and practice under coaches Dot Pierce and Derek McDowell.
The game finished with the score at a close 20-17.
“We will continue to work on eliminating turnovers, concentrate on making free throws and improving the basics and fundamentals of basketball,” Pierce said.
The Lady Cats were lead in scoring by Keyona Crankfield with 5 points and Zycheria Russ with 4 points.
The Bainbridge Middle School Lady Cats suffered a loss to Whigham on Thursday, Nov. 7, with the score of 21-17. Coach Dot Pierce and Coach Derek McDowell were impressed with their young players. The Lady Cats are an inexperienced team, however, they are eager to learn and willing to hustle. They were led in scoring by Mycha Harris with 6 points, Kali Taylor with 5 points, Takemia Campbell with 4 points and Sedrianna Reels rounding out the scoring with 2 points.
The Bearcats took the court next for their first game of the season.
The team fought hard through the game, but ended up falling short with the final score at 32-29. Coming up short of a victory by just a few points, Head Coach Patrick Clark said he wasn’t disappointed in his player’s performance by any stretch.
“I was really impressed with the effort me team exhibited,” Clark said. “Every player performed admirably even though we fell short at the end of the game.”
Kenya Hughes scored 8 points for the Bearcats, with Bryce Jones right behind him at 7 points and Timothy Allison with 5.
Thursday, the teams travelled to Whigham Middle School to face the Indian.
They boys came out of the gates firing and putting the ball through the basket. The final score was 50-22.
“Every player hustled and we had very few turnovers,” Clark said. “I know the win helped my young players moral and boost their confidence.”
Hughes scored 20 points for the Bearcats. Behind him were Alex Baker with 8 points and Timothy Allison with 6. The Bearcats and Lady Cats next game is at home against Grace Christian Academy on Monday, Nov. 18.
