The Grace Christian Academy Cougars travelled to Open Bible in Valdosta last Tuesday and returned home with a 59-46 road win.

“I thought they showed good mental toughness during the game,” head coach Tommy Yancey said. “The players understood their roles.”

Sophomore wing Jack McRae led the team with an astounding 31 points. He was 14 for 27 from the field and hit one for three on three-pointers.

“He just took advantage of the 1-2-2 Open Bible was running,” Yancey said. “He was catching them in the high post and just killing it.”

McRae also had one offensive rebound, seven defensive rebound and three steals. However, he only managed two for seven on his free throws.

Both senior guard Garvis Kelly and senior guard Brent Noble added eight points a piece to the total, both also going three for seven from the field. Garvis sank two of four three-point attempts, one of which helped seal the deal for a win.

“We made a big run in the middle of the fourth that pretty much sealed the game,” Yancey said.

Like the Lady Cougars, Yancey wants to contiue to cut down on the Cougar’s turnovers. They had 20 against Open Bible.

“We get careless and impatient,” Yancey said. He explained that when his players get careless, they are more likely to make mistakes and give the ball away.

Yancey also said moving forward, the Cougars need to continue to secure their defensive fundamentals.

“With good and sound fundamentals, you are able to move as fast as possible without having to think about it,” he said.
