Bearcat basketball coach celebrates milestone season

Bainbridge High School Bearcats head basketball coach Rickey McCullough, who led his team to the top seed in Friday and Saturday’s Region 1-AAAAA Tournament in Bainbridge, reached another career milestone this season.
McCullough led the Bearcats to the Region 1-AAAA championship and the State Class AAAA Final Four and was Region 1-AAAA coach of the year in 2009 and 2010.
On Jan. 14 in Colquitt, his Bearcats defeated the Miller County High School Pirates 72-58 for his 800th career victory. He has 806 career victories going into Friday and Saturday’s Region 1-AAAAA Tournament. His current record is 806-314. Currently at Bainbridge he is 172-63
Before coming to Bainbridge eight years ago to take over the Bearcats basketball program, coach McCullough coached 31 years in Florida.
His Florida coaching career included one year at Cottondale High School, three years at Liberty County High School in Bristol and 27 years at Chipley High School where he won 19 district championships and 15 regional championships.
He led the Chipley boys to four final Fours and the Chipley girls to one Final Four.
On May 15, 2010, in Orlando, coach McCullough was inducted into the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC) 2010 Court of Legends Florida Circle of Champions Hall of Fame.
During his career he has averaged 21 victories a season and had between 30 and 40 players earn college basketball scholarships.
McCullough said he feels blessed and honored to have coached so many fine players during his long career.
