A group of 48 cancer survivors, plus their families and friends, were guests at a survivors supper held Friday evening at First United Methodist Church.
This is an annual event sponsored by the Relay for Life Committee. It celebrates and honors those who have survived cancer for another year of their lives.
Richard Hughes, himself a cancer survivor, and his family provided the meal, which was prepared by the men of the church and served by the women and teenagers.
The survivor dinner chairpersons were Keith and Susan Harrison. More than 27 local merchants and individuals donated 60 gifts, which were distributed to each survivor.
Natasha Powell was the speaker of the evening. She shared her experiences of being the caregiver for her mother as she struggled with cancer.
American Cancer Society staff partner, Emily LaMontagne was also present to participate in the honors.
The Relay for Life Committee is being chaired this year by Lacey Addison. The event will be Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Bainbridge Middle School track.
Each participating team this year will follow the theme of “Lights, Camera Relay,” by decorating their tent as a movie title or TV show.
