The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats track teams will travel to Albany Saturday to compete in the Westover High School Patriots and Lady Patriots Invitational Meet.
The teams were scheduled to participate in the Lowndes County High School Vikings and Vikettes Invitational Meet this past Friday in Valdosta, but the meet was cancelled due to rain. It will not be rescheduled.
In addition to Westover and Bainbridge, Friday’s meet in Albany will feature the Albany Indians and Lady Indians, the Daugherty Trojans and Lady Trojans and the Monroe Trojans and Lady Trojans.
Also in the meet will be two Columbus schools, Hardaway and Northside Columbus, and the Harris County Tigers and Lady Tigers.
The Cairo Syrupmakers and Syrup Maids will also be in the meet along with the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets and Lady Yellow Jackets.
Bearcats coach Larry Cosby, Lady Cats coach Tandria Phillips and long time Bearcats highly successful track coach and Decatur County sports Hall of Fame member Doctor Larry Clark all believe that the Westover Meet will be very beneficial to their teams.
“Our Region 1-AAAAA preliminaries will be Tuesday, April 15, in Albany, so it is important that we do well at the Westover Meet to prepare for it,” Clark said.
The Region 1AAAAA finals will be Thursday, April 17, in Albany and the Sectional Meet Saturday, April 26, at Stars Mill High School in Fayette County.
The state class AAAAA girls meet will be Thursday, May 1, through Saturday, May 3, in Albany and the state class AAAAA boys meet will be Thursday, May 8, through Saturday, May 10, in Jefferson.
