Former Decatur County EMS shift supervisor JoAnn Joiner was terminated Thursday as a follow-up to EMS Director Larry Battle’s disciplinary action for her denial of mutual aid to Seminole County.
Joiner, a 13-year EMS worker, was originally suspended for three 24-hour shifts after the incident. Decatur County Administrator Gary Breedlove made the decision to fire her.
“I finally got the details on the exact exchange between her and Seminole County,” Breedlove said.
Breedlove’s decision came after evaluating the disciplinary action and analyzing the 911 calls. “Those combined factors pushed it over the top,” he said.
Joiner has a history of poor performance with Decatur County EMS since she was employed in 2001.
The Decatur County Board of Commissioners is currently looking into options to privatize the county’s EMS. The board is scheduled to provide an update on EMS at the meeting next Tuesday, April 8 at 9 a.m. at the County Commission building.
