Twenty-six Bainbridge High School Bearcat and Lady Cat track performers will be competing Saturday in the state class AAAAA sectional meet at Stars Mills High School near Atlanta.

To qualify for the sectionals, the region 1-AAAAA champion Bearcats and region 1- AAAAA third place Lay Cats had to finish in the top four at the region 1-AAAAA finals last Thursday at the Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track in Albany.

Bearcats going to sectionals include Craig Cooper, who was first in the long jump with a leap of 20-feet-8-inches and third in the high jump with a leap of six feet. He will also go in the 4-by-100-meter relay along with his relay meter teammates Shawn Herring, Elijah Tyler and Tavarius Bowens. Their relay finished second in a time of 43.41.

The 4-by-400-meter relay team of Stephen Johnson, Greg Cooper, Craig Cooper and Lorenzo Mitchell qualified for sectionals with a fourth place time of 3:32.32.

The 4-by-100-meter relay team of Martez Vickers, Lorenzo Mitchell, Greg Cooper and Cedric Junes qualified for sectionals with a time of 43.53. Greg Cooper is also going to sectionals after turning in a fourth place time of 11.34 in the 100-meter dash.

Also representing the Bearcats at sectionals will be Dominic Douglas, who won the high jump with a leap of 6-feet-4-inches and Chase Harris, who won the 1600-meter run in a time of 4:39.21 and the 3200-meter run in a time of 9:53.97. This was the second consecutive year that Douglas won the region 1-AAAAA high jump and Harris won the region 1-AAAAA 1600-meter championships.

Chris Johnson will be going to the shot put and discus events. He won the region 1-AAAAA shot put championship with a heave of 45-feet-7-inches and took third in the discus with a throw of 133-feet-4-inches. Stephen Johnson earned his spot in the sectionals by taking second in the triple jump with a distance of 43-feet-9-inches.

Curtiavious is going to sectionals after turning in a first place 300-meter hurdles time of 15.81 and a first place 110-meter hurdles time of 15.81. Also qualifying for sectionals were Victor Bodison, who was third in the long jump with a leap of 20-feet-3-inches; Charles Vickers, who was fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-feet-4-inches; Isaiah Brown, who was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.34; and Jaykari Rozier who was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.98.

Dreyveon Banks was third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:28.70 and fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:54.13. Lorenzo Mitchell was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.26.

Lady Cats qualifying for state included Raven Burney, who won her fourth consecutive region championship with a first place 16-foot-10-inch long jump. She was also fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.25 and was a member of the fourth place finishing 4-by-100-meter relay team with Terrika Green, Tearnee Harvin, anjd Jasmine Price in a time of 51.40 and the 4-by-400-meter relay team of Terrika Geen Jasmine Price and Brianna Turner in a time of 4:26.61.

Paige Braswell won the 3200-meter and 1600-meter championships in times of 12:09.27 and 5:47.88. Longeisha Emanuel was third in the high jump and the triple jump with a leap of 4-feet-10-inches and 33-feet-4-inches. Asia Thomas was second in the discus with a throw of 101-feet-3-inches and fourth in the shot put with a heave of 32-feet-5-inches. Tearnee Harvin was third in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet-6-inches and fourth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.14.
