Four students got to pie their physical education coach at Jones Wheat Elementary School in the face Friday at an assembly where they danced to “Happy” and other popular hits before getting their exciting reward for a year of hard work.
The students at Jones Wheat collected more than 26,000 Box Tops for Education — a program started by General Mills, Inc. where students can tear off parts specially marked labels from food packaging and receive donations to their school for technology and supplies.
The four children who collected the most box tops were Kinsey Carruthers, Alexis Keaton, Dawson Cottles and Willie Ray.
Julie Cottles, who is the PTO organizer for the Box Top program at Jones Wheat, said each box top collected earns the school 10 cents, which means more than $2,600 for the school.
“That money will go for anything the school needs,” Cottles said. “This will really help us with the new school and moving into the new building. These donations can help with field trips, teacher appreciation week, but really anything teachers need.”
The four top collecting students collected more than 1,000 box tops between the four. They were able to pie Coach Blake Carruthers Friday at an assembly.
