Twenty-two local youngsters ranging in age from 6 to 12 enjoyed this week’s Fishing With Frank Camp at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA.
The camp was directed by YMCA facilities and grounds director Frank Godwin who is currently the points leader on the American Bass Anglers Tour and also competes on the Bainbridge Fishing League’s Forrest L. Woods Tour .He is a members of the Big Brothers Bass Club and the weigh master for their club tournaments.
Goodwin said a lot of people work hard to make the camp, which took place Monday through Thursday, successful,
“This camp is not al about me,” Godwin said. “A number of local businesses provided things for the campers. There were also parents and grand parents there with their campers.
Campers cut their own cane poles. and Godwin and other adults taught them to rig up their fishing line and hook on the hole. Crickets, worms, marshmallows and Vienna sausage were used for bait.
“This is the second year of our fishing camp and the attendance has really grown, Last year we had 14 campers. The youngsters get really excited when they pull in a fish. The smiles on their faces are special.”
