Shelter receives generous financial donation

Shortly after the announcement of the donation of land to the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society, at least one individual was inspired to make a generous financial donation to get the ball rolling on the necessary funds to build a new, modern animal shelter.
Bob “Woody” Woodward, a long-time lover and preserver of animals, has stepped forward and put his money where his heart is in hopes it will inspire others to do the same.
Woodward presented a check to BDCHS board president Carol Lewis and Dennie Nichols on Tuesday afternoon.
The two women are spearheading a fund-raising drive to be able to build on the five acres of land that was recently donated by the Earl Nichols family.
Woodward said he wanted to make this donation because he loves the animals and knows the needs of the shelter. “They are having to euthanize too many animals each month. I’m hoping a new, roomier shelter will make a difference.”
Lewis and Nichols were both very excited and thankful to receive the donation. They hope others will be moved to donate whatever amount they can. Even those who may not be able to donate cash may be able to make in-kind service donations. Nichols pointed out that Hal Mills donated his services by doing the land survey free of charge.
Persons interested in making a contribution toward the new shelter are encouraged to contact Carol Lewis at 246-4238.
