Rape reported in Bainbridge

Bainbridge Public Safety investigators are currently investigating a reported rape.
A Bainbridge woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted Wednesday night around 11:30 p.m. on Green Street.
The woman stated she was walking in the area of Green Street and Flemming Street behind the Grocery Outlet when an unidentified male rushed at her from behind Grocery Outlet and knocked her to the ground, according to the narrative of the incident report.
“He then produced an unknown type (of) handgun and pointed it at her stating, ‘You gonna give me some or I’m gonna kill you!’ The attacker then drug her behind some boxes located at the loading ramp on the south side of Grocery Outlet and proceeded to rape her,” according to the report.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey, there is an average of 237,686 victims of rape and sexual assault each year, about one every two minutes.
Sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes, with 60 percent still being left unreported, according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.
