Funeral services for Eddie James Rogers, 52, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, formerly of Bainbridge, were held Sunday, August 24, 2014, at First African Baptist Church in West Bainbridge, Ga., with Pastor Henry Flowers III presiding. Interment was in Jonas Lobe Cemetery with Cecil B. Rogers, Larry Rogers, Theodore Rogers, Herbert Rogers, Ronal Rogers and LaRae Davis acting as pallbearers.
Mr. Rogers was born June 1, 1962 to Anna Mae Rogers and Joe Cecil Rogers. He attended the public schools in Decatur County, graduating from Bainbridge High School in 1980. Eddie loved to play basketball and was a member of the BHS basketball team until he graduated.
After high school he began working at Amoco Fabrics, where he remained for a number of years before joining the United States Air Force. He served his country for over 20 years before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Mae Rogers; grandparents, Rev. H.B. and Bertha Lee Jeffery.
His memory lives on with his wife, Ursula Carter Rogers; son Caleb Rogers of Glen Burnie, Maryland; daughter Tyisha Carter of Aiken, S.C.; father Joe Cecil Rogers, siblings Elizabeth Collier of Atlanta, Cecil Rogers (Marianna) of Dallas, Texas, Herbert Rogers of Bainbridge, Larry Rogers (Gwen) of Valdosta, Ga., Ronald Rogers of Valdosta, Theodore Rogers and Carol Rogers of Bainbridge; and many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of local arrangements.
