Slowing them down

The Bainbridge City Council showed it is serious about slowing down speeders, as they made changes to its rules concerning how speed bumps are installed.
The new rules state that speed bumps can be installed on any street with a maximum, two-way traffic count between 500 to 1,500 vehicles per day. To get the city government to install speed bumps, citizens have to get signatures from 67 percent of the residents who live along the roadway where the speed bumps are desired.
The City of Bainbridge has already put in speed bumps on Hatcher Street, which runs between Cheney Griffin Park and the Earle May Boat Basin. In addition, four-way stop signs have been put up at the intersection of Potter and Pine streets, with the goal of slowing down traffic near the elementary school.
Now’s the time for any citizens who are concerned about speeding on their street to take action. People interested in getting speed bumps on their street can pick up a copy of the new rules and an application from the city planner’s office at City Hall.
