The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team opened their season Tuesday with a 40-31 home victory over the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers.

The Lady Cats will return to action Friday with a home game against the Seminole County High School Lady Indians. They will host the Dougherty High School Lady Trojans today at 6 p.m.

Tameria Levens led the Lady Cats in scoring with 20 points. Patra Parris was also in double figures with 12. Jomira Grant was high for the Lady Packers with 12.

Trailing 6-5 early, the Lady Cats went ahead to stay 7-6 when Parris hit a jumper from the right side at the 3:18 mark. She followed that up with two free throw a at the 2:06 mark to increase the advantage to 9-6.

After Gant hit a couple of free throws to cut it to 9-8, Asia Gordan hit a jumper a jumper from the right side to up the lead to 11-8.

Alexandria Carter hit a 3-point jumper with 1:10 remaining to increase the advantage to 14-8 and that is the way with first quarter ended.

The Lady Cats took their first double-digit advantage at 20-10 when Parris hit a shot in the lane with 6:01 remaining in the second quarter. They were out front 28-20 at halftime.

Parris hit a lay up and a short turn around jumper in the lane late in the fourth quarter to pit the Lady Cats up 32-20 entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Cats went up by 14, at 37-23, when Gordon hit a 3-point jumper with 6:36 showing on the fourth quarter clock.

Lady Cats head coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his team played very well.

“We had some turnovers but we did a good job of ball handling and rebounding,” Cochran said. “Point guards Beonka Madge and Alexis Russ handles the ball well. We did have to many turnovers but I am confident we can get that straightened out.”
