F. E. “Jimmy” Wells, 89, of Bainbridge, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Poppell officiating. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery with his grandchildren serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.
Mr. Wells was born April 10, 1925 in Hinesville, Ga., the son of Otis Alfred Wells and Lulu Reddish Wells. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was in the flotilla of the USS Missouri when the peace treaty was signed with Japan. After retiring as a tank shop supervisor with Miller Hydro Company, he enjoyed working in auto sales, fishing, and managing his rental property. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Heath of Bainbridge, and Sheila Edwards and her husband, Johnny, of Bainbridge; his sons, Chuck Wells and his wife, Natasha, of Bainbridge, and Ashley Jones of Dothan, Ala.; his sister, Willa Berta Tappley of Swainsboro, Ga.; his grandchildren, Donny Wells, Dexter Wells, Corey Wells, Jason Heath, Caroline Horne, Natalie Godwin, Chase Edwards, and Kristin Allen; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Mattie Lou Sellars Wells and Jeannette Morton Wells; his sons, Donald Evan Wells and Bobby Ray Wells; his brother, Reuben Wells; and his sisters, Dolly Wells Batchelor and Dorothy Wells Smith.
