Grace E. Ammons, 88, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Bainbridge Church of God with Rev. Jamie Rivera officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens with the men of the church serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Bainbridge Church of God, 205 Independent Street, Bainbridge. Mrs. Ammons was born January 23, 1927 in Baker County, Ga., the daughter of John Thomas Newberry and Verdie Mae Haire Newberry. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved taking care of her family and was a member of Bainbridge Church of God. She was a wonderful cook, loved working in her yard, and was always concerned about the “fishermen” in the family.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, W. James Ammons of Bainbridge; her sons, William J. Ammons and his wife, Tonia, of Claremont, NC and Jerry Ammons of Hickory, NC; her grandchildren, Jennifer Miller, Casey Ammons, Sydnie Ammons, and Jarrod Weatherford; her four great-grandchildren; her three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Clifford Mock, Curtis Croley, Hazel Ingram, Lorene Thurman, Retha Cleveland, Ethell Alford, Martha Jane Meredith, Lucy Cobb, Oliver Cook, John Newberry, Sam Newberry, Earl Newberry, and Willis Newberry.
