Myrtice Day Simmons, age 90, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Seminole Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA.. Interment will follow in Brinson Cemetery with Roger Day, Wayne White, Jimmy White, Bobby Thursby, Jarrett Simmons, and Chad White serving as active casketbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, April 10, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Mitchell County, Ga. on February 28, 1925 to W.D. Day and Emma Lee Scarborough Day. She was a graduate of the Brinson School System and worked as a telephone operator for 34 years with Southern Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Simmons enjoyed gardening, fishing, and she had a big heart.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Jerry D. Simmons and his wife Mary White of Donalsonville; her daughter, Deborah Duke Skipper and her husband Charlie of Bainbridge; her sister-in-law, Ruth Day of Brinson; four grandchildren, Jarrett Simmons and his wife Tammie; Chad White and his wife Christine, Trent Clayton, and Trena Bledsoe and her husband Jamie; as well as nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents, W.D. Day and Emma Lee Scarborough Day; the fathers of her children, Gary Simmons and James V. Duke; four brothers, Durwood Day, Russell Day, Elton Day, and Jeff Day; and two sisters, Mary Lee Day and Fannie Mae Godwin.
