The Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team concluded their season Friday with a 5-4 Region 1-AAAA loss to the Cook County High School Hornets in Adel.
A Saturday scheduled Region 1-AAAA game with the Worth County High School Rams that would have been a make up of a Monday, April 13, rain out, was again rained out and will not be rescheduled.
The BHS Bearcats big scoring inning Friday against the Hornets was the top of the fifth when they rallied for three runs to cut a 4-0 Hornets lead to 4-3.
Key blows in the Bearcats fifth were an RBI double by second baseman Dustin Strickland, a sacrifice fly by shortstop Keith Lyle an error also kept the inning alive.
Losing pitcher Tyler Braswell struck out six batters in three and two theirs innings.
First baseman Seth Hall scored the Bearcats final run in the top of the sixth.
Bearcats coach Brian McCorkle said he was proud of the way his team came back after falling behind early.
“The kids were encouraging each other all the way and thought they had a chance to win right up until the final pitch,” he said. “I am proud of all of them.”
The Bearcats will be honored for their season accomplishments at their annual awards banquet Tuesday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria.
