Last month, Nepal was hit by the worst natural disaster the area has seen in about 80 years. The death toll exceeded 8,000, and more than 17,000 were injured.

Hundreds are still missing, according to the country’s National Emergency Operation Centre.

There are mountainous areas where aid workers have had trouble reaching, and things got worse when another quake hit Tuesday.

The April 25 quake was categorized as a major earthquake at a magnitude of 7.8, and Tuesday’s was a magnitude of 7.3, also a major earthquake. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, earthquakes of that magnitude only occur about 15 times a year.

If you haven’t seen photos of the destruction, several areas of the country are in ruin, and many people are afraid to go inside what buildings and structures are left standing.

Several international charity and philanthropy organizations are working to get supplies and aid to the Nepali people, and they’re trying to do so quickly. The local monsoon season starts in June, and landslides will only get worse during the heavy rains.

Some of those organizations, vetted by Public Radio International are: AmeriCares, CARE, Catholic Relief Services, GlobalGiving, International Relief Teams, Operation USA, Save the Children, World Help and UNICEF.
