Frank Godwin, the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA’s resident professional bass angler, will host two Fishing with Frank camps this month at the YMCA pond.
Godwin, who has finished strong in a number of professional bass fishing tournaments, will hold his first camp for 6-to-9-year-old kids Monday, June 8, through Thursday, June, 11, both from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members.
Godwin will host his second camp for 10-to-12-year-olds Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $45 for non-members.
During the camp sessions, Godwin will teach the youngsters everything from cutting a cane pole, to bating hooks and brining in the big ones. Campers will also take a field trip to the Decatur Fish Farm.
Godwin says the thing he enjoys most about the youngsters who come to his camps is watching the huge smiles on their faces when they pull in a fish.
“The camps are all about the kids,” he said. “They always flash a big smile when they show their parents and me their catch. Fishing is a sport that parents and kids can enjoy together.”
