The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team bowed to the Echols County High School Lady Wildcats 9-2 and shut out the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans 8-0 on Friday before losing to the Charlton County High School Lady Indians 11-4 Saturday in the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs Invitational Tournament.
In Friday’s loss to Echols County, the Lady Cays took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning. Three singles and two doubles produced the runs. The Bearcats rallied for a run in the third inning to cut the advantage to 5-1. Mary Grace Briggs tripled and came home on a double by Shelbie Summerlin.
The Lady Cats final run crossed the plate in the fifth inning. It was scored by right fielder Haley Thompson who singled.
In the 8-0 Friday win over Brooks County’s Lady Trojans, Bainbridge scored one in the first and seven in the second to quickly put the game away. Shelbie Summerlin singled with one out in the first, moved up to second and third on fielder’s choices and came in on a single by Bailey Rayfield. RBI singles by Desirae Beachem and Tori Sprenkle were the key blows in the inning.
Lady Cats coach Chris Bryant said he thought his team played well in all four of their tournament games.
“We were a little late leaving Bainbridge so we did not have much time to warm up when we got to Thomasville,” coach Bryant said. “We were just able to warm up a few minutes before the competition started.”
The Lady Cats will return to action Wednesday when hey host the Seminole County High School Lady Indians at the Lady Cats Diamond. It will get underway at 5 p.m. following a 4 p.m. junior varsity game with the Lady Indians.
