Climax Police Chief John Presilla gave a report at the City Council meeting on Monday night August 10 about the break in at the Depot on August 7.

He said with the help of Climax Citizen Joe Salter, two young boys were apprehended. The damage at the Depot was a door kicked in and a fire extinguisher sprayed all over the area that is rented out. Cost for repairing the damage was stated to be around $500.00 to $600.00 with the boy’s parents being liable for the cost.

Presilla stated that the suspects may also have done the damage that destroyed the bathrooms at Parker Park, and damage to the buildings on the Swine Time grounds. These accusations are still being looked into.

Jill Breedlove from Southern Paws Animal Sanctuary, Inc. addressed the council seeking approval to open a no-kill sanctuary in the building next to S&C for unwanted animals. She said the building was donated, but needed a lot of work and would rely on donations along with volunteers to get the building up to code.

Mayor Charles Hadsock said that once the building was inspected and was up to code, she (Breedlove) could be issued a temporary license until she could get up and running.

Catherine Smart was present for an update on her license to operate a Personal Care Home. Mayor Hadsock told Ms. Smart that she would have to get her state license and be inspected before she could get a license from the city. The Mayor gave Ms. Smart a list of items that needed to be done before she could get a license to operate a personal care home. She also was told there would be a public hearing before such licenses could be issued.

Standing Committee Reports:
Streets & roads: Council woman Elizabeth Phillips gave a report on pipes that needed cleaning out and some brick that had fallen into the ditch on Broad Street.

Parks & Rec: Council woman Sandra Thomas said that she was still waiting on the county for their help with the project at the little park. Mayor Hadsock stated that he would look into this.

Old business:
City Clerk Karen Toole reported that the new water billing system should be up and running by the September water bills.
The Mayor reported that he had gotten approval to use money from the LMIG grant to remove the tree on north Main Street.
The burn pit has been cleaned out and the work on the ditches on West Broad Street has been completed.

New Business:
The first of September is the date set when Climax will be holding their meeting with the county on the comprehensive plan.
A meeting for the Hazard Mitigation plan will be held Aug. 27th at 10:00 AM.
Mayor Hadsock stated that the City would hold off on payments for the radios until they find out why there is so much trouble with the Ability to pick up the signal.
The Mayor is to call the county about reimbursement on the workmen’s comp for the fire dept.
There have been some complaints about speeding cars on MLK and the slow children at play sign has disappeared.
