Rotary District 6900 Governor Bob Hagan and his wife Carol were special guests of the Bainbridge Rotary Club this week.

They traveled from their home in Roswell, Ga. to speak at the Tuesday meeting and enjoy an evening of food and fellowship Tuesday evening. They are guests of Marlene and Dean Free.

Hagan’s career in the nursing home, assistant living industry has given him a passion for serving the elderly. That is the special focus during his one-year reign on how Rotary can better serve the senior citizen population.

As a former owner of nursing homes in Bainbridge and Whigham, he is very familiar with South Georgia.

He has developed a list of suggested projects with an emphasis on seniors that he will share with all the clubs in his district.

Among these is a fall prevention booklet developed a few years ago that won an international award.

Hagan also emphasized the motto of the current international president, “Be a Gift to the World,” saying each person has something to give to make life better.

He also welcomed Bainbridge Rotary club’s newest member, Kelsey Holt, who was inducted this week as the 105th new Rotarian of the district since the beginning of the year July 1.

Hagan praised the local club for their various projects, especially with the youth, through such organizations as Rotaract, Interact and RYLA, and other educational affiliations, saying the future of Rotary is with the youth.

He promoted a new website for Rotarians, called Rotary Club Central, urging all to sign up and get involved to discover new programs, while setting and tracking goals.

He advised members to strive not to be a success, but to be of value, thus following the Rotary motto of Service above Self.
