A new civic group in Bainbridge is working to better police and community relations by starting with kids.

Bainbridge-Decatur County Kids ‘n Kops aims to foster positive relationships between public safety officers and members of the community by creating a positive image of police in the eyes of children.

The group meets regularly to discuss local and national issues affecting the Bainbridge community.

Bainbridge Public Safety Captain David Cutchin, who started the group after he and fellow officers volunteered with local kids, said that the group already has an impressive lineup of citizens and officers, but they need expertise of new members and volunteers.

The group is in its infancy and is still working out details like setting up a bank account and starting a Facebook page, but the first event is already being planned for November.

Kids ‘n Kops Fun Day will feature family-friendly games and activities. The group is in the process of getting sponsors to support the program.

So far BPS, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Life Flight have said that they will have officers present at the event.
