Eighth grade teams fight hard despite losses to Pelham

The Bainbridge Middle School eighth grade Lady Cats and Bearcats dropped two games to the Pelham Middle School eighth grade Hornets Monday at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
In the opener, coach Marion Bush’s Lady Cats dropped a 24-15 decision to the Lady Hornets and in second game the coach Heith Maxwell’s Bearcats dropped a 44-38 decision to the Hornets.
Coach Bush said her team is showing constant improvement and coach Maxwell said his team played hard and led 25-22 after three quarters.
“We had our chances and some of our late fourth quarter shots just rimmed out,” coach Maxwell said.
Leading scorer for the Lady Cats was India Paris with seven points. Destiny Thomas put in six and Danielle Jones scored two. The Bearcats were led by center Anthony Florence with 14 points. Darrell Starling of the Hornets took game scoring honors with 25.
Rounding out the Bearcats scoring column were guard Jailyn Peterson with 7, forward Artez Moore with 6, point guard Tim Tarver with 4, point guard Dewayne Kyles with 3 and guard Jeremiah McClain and forward Jordan Brown with 2 apiece.
The eighth grade Lady Cats and Bearcats will return to action today when they travel to Thomas County to take on the Thomas County Central Middle School eighth grade Lady Yellow Jackets and Yellow Jackets.
