Bainbridge Pubic Safety raided the New Era Detail shop on East Shotwell Street Friday morning after an investigation into the owner Bobby Stubbs III.

Stubbs was arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule one controlled substance after officers recovered 30-40 bags with synthetic marijuana residue.

“We have been hearing he was selling [synthetic marijuana] and hit the shop today,” Captain Mark Esquivel said. “We didn’t recover a lot of [synthetic marijuana], but we recovered a lot of empty bags that showed he was selling.”

Synthetic Marijuana, commonly referred to by its street name “spice,” has been a growing problem throughout the country. Whereas marijuana is naturally produced and grown, a chemical process is used to create spice.

“No one really knows what is in it,” Esquivel said. “They put the label not for human consumption on it for a reason.”

Although MDMA, or “molly,” remains the bigger problem spice trafficking has been increasing according to BPS.

“We’ve heard [spice] around,” Esquivel said. “We haven’t seen it a lot, but once you start looking for it you see there is a problem. I think it is going to be one of the next trends.”
