The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team finished a strong second this week in the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs annual Holiday Hoofest, the inaugural event at the school’s new gymnasium, and placed two players, Nadia Marshall and Alexis Russ, on the All-Tournament team.
After earning a first round forfeit on Monday when the Rockdale County High School Lady Bulldogs from Conyers were not able to make it to the game, the Lady Cats earned a berth in Wednesday’s Hoopfest championship game against the Tift County High School Lady Blue Devils with a 54-39 Tuesday win over the Coffee County High School Lady Trojans. Tift County, their opponent in the championship game, got there with a win Tuesday over the Lee County High School Lady Trojans.
In their over Coffee County, Nadia Marshall led the Lady Cats with 19 points. Also in double figures were Alexis Russ with 14, Tytianna Roseborough with 11 and Asia Gordon with 10.
In Wednesday’s 39-25 Hoopfest championship loss to Tift County, the Lady Cats were led by Nadia Marshall with 14 points. Asia Gordon added 5.
Lady Cats head coach Kelvin Cochran said he was extremely pleased with his teams overall effort against the Lady Trojans in the Hoopfest semifinals and against the Lady Blue Devils in the finals.
“We hustled on both ends of the court against Coffee County,” the Lady Cats head coach said. “We passed the ball well, played solid defense and pulled down numerous key rebounds. We also passed the ball well and got it to our shooters in good scoring position.”
“In the championship game with Tift County, I thought both teams were strong defensively,” coach Cochran added.
The Lady Cats will return to regular season action Saturday when they host the Americus-Sumter County High School Lady Panthers. They will travel back to Thomasville Tuesday to take on the Holiday Hoopfest hosts, the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs. Both games will tip off at 6 p.m.
