On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Bainbridge State College’s 3rd Annual Carter Arts & Lecture Series hosted Dr. Bernard Harris, the first African American to walk in space.

Harris spoke to the community about life as an astronaut as well as his involvement with the Harris Foundation, which promotes the enabling of youth to develop and achieve full potential through the support of educational programs, specifically STEM programs.

Prior to Harris’ lecture, Columbus State University’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center entertained all ages with a journey through the stars with the mobile planetarium. The purpose of the Center is to combine education and entertainment to promote science exploration and discovery throughout Columbus and the Southeast. Along with the a host of interactive gallery exhibits, the Center is home to the Challenger Learning Center Mission simulator, Omnisphere Planetarium and much more. It serves as the teaching and research site for Columbus State University’s Astronomy courses.

The Bainbridge State College’s Carter Arts & Lecture Series committee would like to thank the community for its continued support of the Series’ events.

On Feb. 4, Tim Wise, internationally-acclaimed social commentator and educator, will give a lecture at the Charles H. Kirbo Regional Center at 7 p.m. As always the events are free and open to the public.
