The Bainbridge High School wrestling team will travel to Cairo Friday and Saturday to take part in the individual area tournament for Area AAAA-1. The top four wrestlers in each weight class at the area tournament will advance to Sectionals the following weekend.
“I expect at least half the team, six wrestlers, will move on to sectionals,” Head Coach Chad Smith said.
Going into the area tournament BHS wrestlers Ryan Adams at 220-pounds and Tyler Storey at 170-pounds are favored to win their weight classes.
“I expect Ryan and Tyler to win,” Smith said.
Other wrestlers that Smith said have a chance to place highly, or even win, are Tre Storey at 195-pounds and Peyton Register at 138-pounds.
“Tre has a chance,” Smith said. “He’s been struggling with the Cairo kid all year long. Peyton should have have a good showing too, only one kid standing in his way.”
Smith said another wrestler to watch is Tristan Manley at 132-pounds, as he may be motivated by the fact that this is his last year in Bainbridge.
Sectional B for AAAA will take place at Gilmer High School in Ellijay, GA on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class will then advance to the State Finals (top 16 wrestlers in each weight class) at the Infinite Energy Arena in Gwinnet.
